The One-Punch Man movie may have found its titular One-Punch Man.
One-Punch Man is the very definition of Cinderella story. It started off as a well-written, yet poorly-drawn webcomic. It has since received a new world-level artist in the form of Yusuke Murata and a serialization deal with Weekly Shonen Jump. This catapulted the story to a whole new level of fame, which resulted in a larger fan base and an anime adaptation. But it has yet to reach across the pond in the form of a live-action film.
But don’t you worry. As we reported last April, a live-action Hollywood adaptation is in the works from Sony. It is being written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, who have experience as scribes of the Cowboy Bebop live-action series. But who in the world could realize this vision for the big screen? And who could actually play Saitama?

Scooper Daniel Richtman recently posted a new scoop on his Patreon. According to him, Sony is eyeing Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding. If you’ve been following the news, you also know he’s leading the G.I. Joe spinoff film, Snake Eyes. I have to say, if you shave his head bald, I can see him as a dead ringer for the OP superhero.
But what about the director? Richtman also states that Sony has their eyes cast on Chloé Zhao. Zhao may not be a household name, but she’s already well-known in the Marvel fandom. Next year will see the release of her next big movie, Eternals, which features an all-star cast and an unparalleled scope. Clearly, she’ll have the big-budget experience needed to realize One-Punch Man for the big screen.
All in all, these choices have me excited for a One-Punch Man movie. It’s not exactly the first movie I’d pick to be adapted for live-action, but the talent does at least have me curious. What about you?
Can you picture Golding as Saitama, and is Zhao the best pick as director for the manga adaptation? Sound off down below!
