Earlier this week, we became aware that Comcast finally came through with an all-cash offer of $65 billion (yes with a b) to try and buy 20th Century Fox out from under Disney. While this may be disappointing to Marvel Fans, there is still hope. Another possible outcome is Disney and Comcast splitting the Fox properties, as Wall Street analyst, Barton Crockett said Wednesday.
“We would expect Disney to at least match Comcast by adding cash, and Comcast to appease [Rupert] Murdoch’s tax concerns by offering stock, and some back and forth raising the deal bid. Barring a third entrant (Internet/tech is possible), we would see the most sensible outcome as splitting the baby, with Comcast getting Sky (which we see as its main goal) and Disney getting most of the rest.”
For many Marvel fans (including myself) we aren’t really concerned with where the Sky property lands, however, we do have a vested interest in whether or not Disney acquires the estranged Marvel properties, for reasons of once and for all having a complete Marvel Cinematic Universe. So a split in the properties will suffice for most nerds. While it’s likely Disney won’t give this up without a fight, Comcast probably won’t either, as they have quite a number of resources as well.
The ultimate winner is this may be Rupert Murdoch as it is likely this bidding war could get intense.
