According to a new report from trade THR, Oscar Issac is in talks to play Marvel’s Moon Knight. However, today also saw a rumor from insider Charles Murphy pointing towards another two possible actors. So, we gotta trust that THR‘s info is superior here? Much as I think Murphy is a trustworthy insider, we don’t know how up to date his information is. THR with their insider connections trumps anyone but the other trades, so perhaps Isaac is newly being courted?
THR also say that Jeremy Slater, who developed and wrote Netflix’s Umbrella Academy adaptation, has been tapped to develop and lead the writing team. They do point out that this is just ‘talks’ and that a deal is still to be made. Could Marvel then be heading their bets by also looking at Murphy’s Multiverse rumored actors? Murphy’s source says that Marvel Studios showed interest in actors Daveed Diggs and Nick Kroll for the role of Marc Spector. I’m not feeling that scenario though.

What seems more likely to me, (this is pure guesswork), is that Marvel Studios threw out a net. They had various actors in mind and spoke to a few of them. However, the report from THR makes me think the decision was made to go with Oscar Isaac instead, pending a deal. If Isaac signs up this would be his second Marvel role, though his first in the MCU. You may recall Isaac played Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse. Or, you may have used some alien technology to remove the memories of that movie from your brain. This way, you will still remember Apocalypse as one of the X-Men’s greatest villains. I know I tried.
One would certainly hope that Isaac is a better choice for Marc Spector than he was Apocalypse. However, really we can lay blame for that movie on a lot of doorsteps, but not Isaac’s. After all it was not Isaac who decided Apocalypse would look like a Power Rangers villain was it?
What do you think of the news Oscar Issac is in talks to play Marvel’s Moon Knight? Happy, sad, ambivalent? Leave your thoughts below in the usual place.
