Fans of the Halo franchise can now rejoice in the fact they have their Master Chief. Actor Pablo Schreiber has been cast in the role of the Spartan. Schreiber is probably most well known for playing the prison guard George Mendez, otherwise known as “Pornstache” on the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, though I first remember seeing him on HBO‘s The Wire.
A live-action adaptation of the ultra-popular video game franchise has been in the works for what, 20 years now? Ok it’s closer to 11 years, and had the likes of Stephen Spielberg and Peter Jackson attached with Jackson originally set to produce the film. There have been webseries, but they appear to have been more so to promote an upcoming game in the franchise.
So instead of a film fans will get a 10-episode season that will air on SHOWTIME.
Along with Schreiber being cast as Master Chief, it was also announced that actress Yerin Ha will join the series as a “shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both.”

I enjoy the game and the stories of the franchise, but was never what could be classified as a hardcore fan. I played the first game quite a bit but not much after that. It’s now an iconic franchise as far as video games go, I mean it’s no GoldenEye 007, but you can’t really blame it for that.
