Diego Luna brings together different personalities for a dinner talk, especially in times like these.

As an Amazon Original series, Mexican actor and filmmaker Diego Luna dine with politicians, activists, and other personalities to discuss fundamental issues of universal interest in contemporary societies. At the dinner table, the meals provided by the most renowned chefs in episodes.

The series themes include gender violence, femicide, climate crisis, abortion decriminalization, racism, identity, drug legalization, immigration, and COVID-19 (this last episode carried through virtual interviews).

Lune traveled in the seven episodes to various locations, including Baja California, Puebla, Quintana Roo, and Mexico City. Some of the feature guests are Gael Garcia Bernal, actor, and filmmaker; Olga Sanchez, Mexico’s interior secretary; Dr. Hugo Lopez-Gatell Ramirez, Mexico’s undersecretary of prevention and health promotion; Juan Manuel Santos, former president of Colombia; Ana de la Reguera, actor; Ruben Albarran, musician, and activist; Li Saumet, singer; Maria Reyna, Mixe soprano; Odilia Romero, indigenous activist; and Julia Caravias, environmental defender.

The chefs include Enrique Olvera (Pujol), Elena Reygadas (Rosetta), Alexander Suastegui (Itinerant Chef), Javier Plascencia (Animalon), Jair Tellez (Merotoro), and Alejandra Barbabosa (Recaudo).

“Pan Y Circo was born by trying to combine two of the things I enjoy doing most—eating and listening. The goal was to make a show about other people in every way—the other people who are guests on the show, other people who live realities different from mine, and other people who do not think like me. We listen to each other while sharing a meal, nothing more,” said Diego Luna, creator of the series. “The table, in my life, has turned out to be the ideal place to debate, to reflect and share my worries and aspirations with others.”

Pan y Circo is a collaboration with Amazon Prime Video and La Corriente del Golfo, Diego Luna, and Gael Garcia Bernal’s production company.

The series set its premiere on Prime Video on August 7th in Mexico and 200 countries around the world.
