Rogue Squadron was a surprise announcement at the Disney Investor Day. Well, we were expecting a Rogue Squadron announcement, but we never thought it was going to be a movie directed by Patty Jenkins. Just shows you how a little information can be intriguing and yet taken out of context.

So, who is writing the script for Rogue Squadron? Jenkins is not a traditional writer/director, so someone is writing this script. When asked this question by Collider, Jenkins responded.

“I want him to have his own proper announcement, so I’m going to wait until that comes out.”

So that’s tells us that, A it is a surprise currently, and B, that it’s someone who identifies as Male. That could be anyone, I guess for now? I know my The Cantina co-host Kyle Malone will be praying that Jenkins is teasing Michael A. Stackpole, author of the X-Wing book series in the old Legends canon. Though, I would think technical advisor would be the best Stackpole could expect. However, if I was to guess, and I will, it’s Gary Whitta, writer of Rogue One. You can check my reasons for this in the related section below.

The outlet also got some copy from Jenkins about how far along the Rogue Squadron process currently is.

“We’re very far into the — we’re finishing the treatment basically, which is pretty big. So it ends up being like where you’re fairly close to a well-along screenplay by the time I’m done with the treatment in my process. So yeah, we’ve been working on it for a while. It’s going great. I’m super excited about it. I’m super excited about the story.”

It sounds as is the scripting process has been going on for some time. That makes sense to me given it was months ago our source first revealed the name Rogue Squadron as an upcoming project. At the time our source was sure it was not a Disney+ live-action show, so we all assumed animated.
