Here’s my Peacemaker Season 2 E05 review and this one was definitely the set up episode for the final act in the final three episodes. As always, this is a SPOILER FREE review, so I won’t be getting deep into the plot of this one in particular.
What I liked
What I liked this episode was John Cena as Chris and Jennifer Holland as Harcourt. Both seem like the lead characters of this season and both got to stretch their acting chops this week.
The episode follows on directly from last week with Harcourt seemingly ready to hand over Chris to ARGUS for her job back. However, Harcourt didn’t expect Chris to actually show up, putting himself in danger of being captured by Rick Flagg Sr.
The developing relationship between these two is kinda the foundation of this Season and comes to the fore in Episode 5. Chris wants Harcourt, but despite his attempts, Harcourt refuses to reciprocate Chris’ feelings. Armed with this knowledge, Chris makes a decision which will dictate the rest of Season 2.
This was a better Episode than last week for me and had a good mix of action and humor. We are left unsure what Flagg’s real goals are here and Harcourts reaction to Chris’s decision goes against her previous stance. Conflict creates drama and there is a lot of conflict brewing between characters. Not just the leads, but the supporting ARGUS characters also.
Set Up
However, one should note that Episode 5 resolves, nothing. It’s a big set up episode for what comes next. Also remember, that no press have yet seen Episodes 6-8, so all the Peacemaker Season 2 reviews you’ve seen are only Episode 1-5.
That does however allow us the opportunity to safely speculate a little about where this Season is going. I’ll cover that below after a spoiler warning.
Overall, Episode 5 does it’s job well in transitioning us from where we began to where it will all conclude.
GRADE: B+
Not a classic, but effective and setting up what’s to come and overall just a more enjoyable episode than last week.
If you are wary of spoilers, even speculative ones, skip this next section.

So, we are now caught up with the press who got previews. Note to W/B, Be really nice to get on that preview list and have reviews out much faster. Anyhoo, so now we can speculate a little on where all this is going.
The Perfect World?
I’m certainly not he first to suspect that what we’ve seen so far of the other world is not all there is to see. There have been a lot of subtle and no so subtle hints that there is a dark underbelly to he alto-world Chris thinks is so perfect. Why would ‘The Trio’ be such heroes in this world compared to what they are in the main DCU? Many fans, myself included think that reason is extreme racism.
There’s very few if any POC extras in the alt-world scenes. What if this is a society who took extreme measures to exercise their racism? What if ‘The Trio’ are so well liked for doing the dirty work of that society’s needs? It would explain why the alt-world Chris was addicted to meds. Perhaps guilt for his actions drive him down that destructive path.
We now have Judo Master and Ads in the alt-world and I think how both are received in Episode 6 will blow that secret open to the less discerning viewers.

Once Chris understands what this world is, he’ll want to help his friends get back home. However, I anticipate this will eventually put Chris at odds with the alt-world father and brother. Cut a long story short, I think we’ll see Chris have to kill his father and brother from this world just as he did (one accidentally and his father’s fault) back home.
What really confuses me though, is what ARGUS is after? If Flagg just wanted to kill Peacemaker he could have done it already. He really does seem to want that dimensional portal, but why?
James Gunn has teased the finale having a big connection to upcoming movie Man of Tomorrow. Ergo, I think there’s something we are still missing and my guess is that it’s the ARGUS connection and why Flagg is so keen to get that portal. That’s the X factor for me in how the final three episodes will go.
I’m excited to see, check out my Episode 6 review next Monday on LRM Online.
