Peacock Unveils Teaser For New Horror Thriller Series “Teacup”

Peacock is set with a new upcoming horror thriller series Teacup. From the modern-day master of horror, James Wan, and the mind behind The Conjuring and Insidious. Ahead of its premiere, Peacock released the official teaser and new tease art which fans can look forward to as the spooky season approaches.

Teacup, produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and helmed by first-time showrunner Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone), features a cast led by Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy), and Chaske Spencer (The English). The series follows a group of disparate individuals in rural Georgia who must band together in the face of a mysterious and ominous threat in order to survive.

Based on the New York Times bestselling novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, Teacup will premiere on Peacock with its first two episodes on Thursday, October 10, 2024, just in time for Halloween. Following the premiere, two new episodes will be released weekly, building suspense right up until the season finale.

Showrunner Ian McCulloch shares his journey of adapting Stinger into what he describes as a “keyhole epic”—a large story told through an intimate lens. McCulloch, known for his work on Yellowstone, initially hesitated to take on the project, as he typically gravitates towards stories with more subtlety than spectacle. However, after diving into McCammon’s novel, the story stayed with him, and he found a way to adapt it that aligns with his narrative style.

“I read Stinger and it stayed with me. Wouldn’t leave me alone,” McCulloch explained. “I could suddenly see exactly what to do and how to do it. Two weeks later, Atomic Monster had the script for the first episode. Soon after that, Peacock bought it. Not so long after that, both my creative and career dreams actually started coming true.”

McCulloch’s adaptation strips away the large ensemble and grand set pieces of the novel, opting instead for a more intimate and character-driven approach. The series, originally titled Stinger, evolved during production, eventually adopting the title Teacup—a change McCulloch hints at being significant to the storyline.

Executive Producer James Wan, known for his work on The Conjuring Universe and M3GAN, expressed excitement about the project. Wan highlighted how Teacup defies traditional genre labels, blending horror, mystery, and drama into a captivating narrative that holds up a mirror to humanity.

“Teacup defies easy labels. It’s a genre-bending blend of horror, mystery, and drama, with layers that unfold like a captivating puzzle,” said Wan. “It goes beyond chills and thrills and holds up a mirror to humanity, exploring the darkness that resides within us all. We hope you enjoy this wild ride as much as we’ve loved creating it!”

With its talented cast, intriguing premise, and the creative minds of McCulloch and Wan behind it, Teacup is poised to be one of the most talked-about series of the year. Fans of horror and suspense won’t want to miss it.

Mark your calendars for October 10th, when Teacup makes its debut on Peacock, and prepare yourself for a thrilling, mysterious, and haunting journey.
