It’s not since Ben Hur has seen a chariot racing for all its excitement and glory. In the Peacock series Those About to Die, Dimitri Leonidas portrays chariot-racing legend Scorpus and Gabriella Pession as Antonia, a chariot racing team owner, who showcases the politics, gambling, and everyone’s passion to win at all costs.

The cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins, Tom Hughes, Jojo Macari, Moe Hashim, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, Rupert Penry-Jones, Pession, Leonidas, Emilio Sakraya, David Wurawa, Pepe Barroso, Goncalo Almeida, Eneko Sagardoy, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Lara Wolf, Angeliqa Devi, Kyshan Wilson, and Alicia Edogamhe.

Those About to Die is an epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told—the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most…..blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with Gabriella Pession and Dimitri Leonides about the series, characters, training, and the honesty of Roman chariot racing.

Gabriella Pession is an American-born Italian actress best known for her role in Crossing Lines from 2013 to 2015. She appeared in numerous Italian films and TV series. On the American projects, she appeared in Wilfred, and Station 19.

Dimitri Leonidas is an English actor known for his roles in The Monuments Men, Rosewater, and Riviera. He marked his first major role in 2001 with the BBC series Grange Hill, where he appeared for four seasons. In 2009, he co-starred in the teen horror film Tormented. He starred in Centurion in 2010 alongside Michael Fassbender. Other works included the television series Sinbad, the Spanish film Animals, and a guest role in Doctor Who.

All ten episodes of Those About to Die premiered on Thursday, July 18, on Peacock.
