According to the latest news Pedro Pascal joins Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel in an undisclosed role. Deadline reports Pascal is in final negotiations for a role in the upcoming historical sword and sandals epic. Here is what the trade had to say about the upcoming movie and the cast assembled so far.

Sources tell Deadline that Pascal is in final negotiations to join the untitled Gladiator sequel for Paramount. He joins Paul Mescal, who will star as Lucius, as well as Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington. Ridley Scott is returning to direct.

Pascal’s role is unknown.

I had not realized Mescal was in this as well. That lad is getting a name for himself, I’ve typed his name more than any other this week already. As for the rest of the cast, no complaints. Where I may have some issue is with the idea of doing a Gladiator sequel in the first place. For a start, surely it has to be a prequel, right? I mean Maximus is dead and his dying breath was that Rome should become a republic once more. I mean, real history is out the window here, so I know it was a long time before the Roman Empire fell, but there was also no Maximus, who killed an Emperor in the Colosseum for control of the Empire either.

Will this just be a completely separate story about a new dude who rises up the Gladiator ranks to face the new Emperor? Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved Gladiator and if the sequel is that good I won’t care too much about whether it was necessary, to begin with anyway. After time though I might consider what the point of it was and whether it was better left alone?

Oh, and the only other thing I have to add is some ideas for the movie title. Take note of these Mr. Scott. Gladiator Duo, Gladiator II, Gladiator: More Sandals, Gladiator: Maximus Overdrive, Gladiator: Duo Maxi Duo Mus. It’ll probably just be something dull like Gladiator: Uprising or Gladiator: Blood in the Sand. Yuch!

As for Pascal, well he’s the big thing right now and certainly an actor I enjoy watching. Hopefully he has a great part and I’m reminded of his stint in Game of Thrones (pictured above) where he had some cool fighting sequences.

What do you think of the news as Pedro Pascal joins Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel in an undisclosed role? Thoughts below as always.
