If the 2016 conclusion of the gothic horror series Penny Dreadful left a hole in your heart, I highly recommend you check out The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina! Oh, and if that isn’t quite your speed, then I guess you have another Penny Dreadful follow-up series to look forward to.
According to Deadline, the Showtime series will be getting a follow-up, in the form of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. As the title indicates, the show will see a move from Victorian-era London to 1938 Los Angeles. The show will feature new characters, new conflicts, and new storylines — so don’t expect more of the same. This will likely stand completely on its own, while retaining the style and feel of what came before.
By setting itself in Los Angeles, it will deal with myths and legends in Mexican-American folklore, and will also feature social tension.

“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will have a social consciousness and historical awareness that we chose not to explore in the Penny Dreadful London storylines,” creator, writer, and executive producer of both Penny Dreadful and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels John Logan said. “We will now be grappling with specific historical and real-world political, religious, social and racial issues. In 1938, Los Angeles was facing some hard questions about its future and its soul. Our characters must do the same. There are no easy answers. There are only powerful questions and arresting moral challenges. As always in the world of Penny Dreadful, there are no heroes or villains in this world, only protagonists and antagonists; complicated and conflicted characters living on the fulcrum of moral choice.”
“We were so thrilled when John Logan came to us with this wildly original take on the Penny Dreadful mythology that explores both the human spirit and the spirit world here in California,” said Gary Levine, President of Programming, Showtime Networks. “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels promises to be an extraordinary saga of familial love set against the terrifying monsters that are around us and within us.”
