Peter Jackson To Use Previously Unseen Footage Of The Beatles To Make New Documentary

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson will be directing a new documentary on The Beatles. Jackson plans to use 55 hours of previously unseen footage of the Beatles in studio that was shot in January of 1969. The sessions beared fruit in the form of the band’s classc album, Let It Be.

The footage to be used is said to be the only  videoof the Beatles in studio that is of any value. Along with the 55 hours of video Jackson will also utilize 140 hours of audio. Below you can read part of a statement from Jackson himself.

“The 55 hours of never-before-seen footage and 140 hours of audio made available to us, ensures this movie will be the ultimate ‘fly on the wall’ experience that Beatles fans have long dreamed about – it’s like a time machine transports us back to 1969, and we get to sit in the studio watching these four friends make great music together.”

“I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth. After reviewing all the footage and audio that Michael Lindsay-Hogg shot 18 months before they broke up, it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove. Sure, there’s moments of drama – but none of the discord this project has long been associated with. Watching John, Paul, George, and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating – it’s funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate. I’m thrilled and honored to have been entrusted with this remarkable footage – making the movie will be a sheer joy.”

While I am a Beatles fan, I’m not a huge fan, they’re great, no doubt about it, but personally I am more a fan of the musical stylings of  Pink Floyd (everything before The Wall and nothing after it) and Led Zeppelin. Though I do enjoy the Beatles enough to check out this documentary when the times comes, as I get easily drawn in by musical documentaries. No release date for the film as of now.
