Disney/Pixar’s “Elemental” is now playing in theaters everywhere. At its core, it’s about two young people using their differences to get the best out of one another. But there is also a greater theme of how different cultures can come together and live in harmony to make something as wonderful as Element City. Fire, Water, Air, and Earth may be very unique yet they can use one another to make a functional society.
It’s the kind of movie that is right up Pixar’s alley. Just like in every one of their previous feature animated films, the creative team led by Peter Sohn push the envelope for a unique experience in “Elemental” that we haven’t seen before. Meticulously creating four unique cultures inspired by four elements around us and the world they would live in.
Once that was done, the foundation was set up to tell the story of Ember Lumen, a young lady that has sheltered herself in the only firey world she knows. But upon meeting Wade, she quickly learns that there is a whole world out there that she can explore that can only make her fire burn brighter.

With the release of ‘Elemental’ in theaters, LRM Online‘s Manny Gomez spoke with Peter Sohn and Denise Ream about the film. Sohn serves as the director and writer of the film and Ream serves as a producer.
During our conversation, they talked about the reasons why Pixar is always reaching for the impossible for their current film. Why that’s important and the feeling that the animators have after they complete the project. Also, they touch on the immigrant story and how it wasn’t only personal to them but also to the many first or second-generation immigrants that work at Pixar. It’s a great conversation that you can check out below!
