This weekend is the opening of Disney/Pixar’s latest animated film, “Elemental”. As we currently live in a world where it seems that many people’s differences make them as far apart as fire and water, our two characters in the film, Ember and Wade show us that if we take time to learn from one another, we are not so different.

As we have shared with you before here on LRM Online, Ember Lumen, voiced by Leah Lewis, is a Fire Woman in her twenties with a great heart but can be hot-headed sometimes. As an only child of immigrant parents, she is driven by her knowledge of how much her mom and dad have sacrificed for her.

Wade Ripple, voiced by Mamoudou Athie, is a Water Guy also in his twenties. While some call it “wearing your emotions on your sleeve”, Wade practically is his emotions. He is a great listener and quite literally bubbling with compassion for others. With Wade, the waterworks are always coming.

With Disney/Pixar’s “Elemental” premiering this weekend, LRM Online‘s Manny Gomez sat with the two stars of the film Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie at Pixar Studios in Emeryville, California.

We talked about how they found their voices for Wade and Ember during our conversation. Specifically, when their characters get emotional. As well as the theme of being descendants of immigrants and the kind of emotions and responsibility that could emote from a child. One common theme you will find in the interview is how much their family played a role in the voices of Ember and Wade.

They also share their thoughts on seeing the animation of “Elemental” as a finished product being that their work is mostly done in a sound booth. Its a fantastic interview that you can check out below!

Here is the synopsis for Disney/Pixar’s “Elemental”

An all-new, original feature film set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. Directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, and featuring the voices of Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade, respectively.

“Elemental” is now playing in theaters everywhere.
