A petition to have the MCU Fantastic Four movie go to Stockton is gaining traction. Why Stockton you may ask? Well, there’s a story behind that. This particular story goes all the way back to the 1980’s, involves Stan Lee himself, and a previously successful petition.
I didn’t know this till recently, but Stockton was made the official birthplace of the Fantastic Four in the comics canon. The reason, was a previous campaign by some notable figures (Al Greco & Joe Field) in the Stockton area. The campaign was backed by Marvel’s Stan Lee, and Stockton became the place where the Fantastic Four spaceship crashed and the first family discovered their powers.
As quoted from the Blog article linked below:
With Lee’s backing, there was no way the Marvel crew in New York could say no. On February 26, 1986, Stan “The Man” Lee came to Stockton, stood on the steps of City Hall for a special ceremony, and made it official. The Fantastic Four comic issue #296 would be the first issue to reference Stockton as the foursome’s home. Stockton would go on to be featured in future Fantastic Four stories Marvels: Eye of the Camera Vol.11 (Dec. 2008) and The Fantastic Four Season 1 Vol. 11 (October 2011).

For now we have almost no clue what Marvel will decide to do with the MCU version of the Fantastic Four. It seems certain the teams home base will remain NYC, as it should. However if we do get to see the origin of the team, why not use Stockton as the place where their rocket crashed? Even if Fantastic Four is not an origin story, there are ways to make this work. I guess though for now the ball is in Marvel’s court. However, if that petition gets enough numbers, who knows?
