While the future of the DC Extended Universe slowly starts to reveal itself, Shazam is barreling ahead, business as usual. On the heels of Justice League’s release, we received casting announcements for all the key roles of Shazam, as well info regarding the impending production.

Now, actor Asher Angel (who plays Billy Batson) has recently shared an Instagram Story, and in it, we see a photo of him alongside Levi during what looks to be a table read for the film. On top of the photo, Angel wrote “Here we go,” implying that the process is underway.

Take a look at the photo below:

While mainstream audiences may not have the faintest idea who Shazam actually is, this may be the perfect palate-cleanser for the DC Extended Universe. While Wonder Woman was a runaway hit for DC Films, Justice League wasn’t so much, and led to continued doubts in this universe. However, given Shazam’s more lighthearted wish-fulfillment story, it may be the more Marvel-esque tale that audiences really want to see on the big screen.

Even more promising is director David F. Sandberg. He may only be known for his horror films Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, but even if you don’t like horror, those movies prove that he understands story, which is obviously something you want from a director at this stage in the game.
