PlayStation 5 Live Showcase Happening This Wednesday, September 16

A PlayStation 5 live showcase happening this Wednesday? Read on for more details.

The next gen console war is heating up. Xbox has released pricing, release dates and pre-order dates for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. PlayStation has not made an official announcement so far and the rumor mill has been going into meltdown. So far I have heard a lot of supposed pricing and release dates for the PS5. The most popular theories are that the PS5 will release on November, 20th. That’s ten days after the Xbox. The most popular rumors also think the PS5 will cost more than the Xbox Series X at around $499. However, these are just rumors.

Maybe there’s a chance we could start to get some official news on that this week? PlayStation’s official blog has just announced a new live showcase event for Wednesday, September 16. Here is the official description of this showcase event.

Before PlayStation 5 launches this holiday, we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!).

Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.

Tune in live on Twitch or YouTube this Wednesday, September 16 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see what’s next for PS5.

Now, I may be wrong, but I get the feeling the likes of pre-order dates, release dates and pricing might not be discussed at this showcase event. There is no mention of hardware discussions. This instead seems to be focused on some of the new games coming to PS5 for launch and beyond.  Normally I’d say this is good because it’s all about the games at the end of the day. However, unless there are a number of surprises, I’m not sure fans want to see 40 minutes of pre-rendered gameplay again.

The general feeling I am getting from fans is that they want proper release details. Especially now Xbox has played its hand. Fans want to know when they can pre-order their new PS5 and how much it’s all going to cost them. Maybe Sony will surprise us all and make some official announcements about all this on Wednesday, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Will you be watching the PlayStation 5 live showcase this week? Share your thoughts below as always.
