Kang the Conqueror in next Ant-Man film?

This is an unexpected twofer in terms of news. Last I heard, Kang the Conqueror was set to debut in the Loki Disney+ series. While that may be true, it looks like the Marvel baddie is also a character in the upcoming Ant-Man sequel from director Peyton Reed. Needless to say, the fact that this character is showing up in Ant-Man 3 of all places is pretty darn cool. But the news doesn’t end there.

Deadline is also reporting that the role is going to Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors. I’ve honestly been mostly-unfamiliar with Majors until now, but find him to a strong aspect in the already-strong HBO series. Locking him down as Kang the Conqueror is a great get for Marvel Studios.

Sadly, there are no extra details as to how prevalent Kang will be in Ant-Man 3. The assumption is that he will be one of the main villains, but I’d find that a bit weird, personally. He is very much a character with multi-film potential, so I can’t see him being simply defeated Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne in their film. But, who’s to say he can’t just make his debut in Ant-Man 3 before moving on? After all, the Ant-Man films have always had surprising ties to the main universe at-large.

It’s also possible he won’t be playing Kang. While this report does come from a major outlet, they did say he is “likely” to play Kang. So, we’ll see.
