Last week saw another 35-minute Nintendo Direct hit the web, and while it had plenty of interesting games hit — including a Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake and the new I.P. Astral Chain — there was definitely some heavy hitters missing. Chief among them was the eighth generation Pokémon game, which is expected to hit in the latter half of this year.

So, when can we actually expect the new game to get announced? Well, we can never be 100% sure of these things until they are officially revealed — and Nintendo Directs are often rumored numerous times up until their actual releases — but there is some speculation pointing to us seeing first footage of the game as early as this coming Wednesday.

Fans are pointing to the official Pokémon Twitter account, where they are counting down to Pokémon Day, which is February 27. But they aren’t just counting down days until Pokémon Day, but they’re counting down regions — teasing them as if they were vacation spots. So there are two bits of speculation that are being inferred from this.

The first is that something special (namely a Pokémon Direct) is on its way, and the second is that the eighth generation of Pokémon games will feature all of the territories introduced in the franchise’s history so far. This would make the game the most expansive one to date, and would really live up to that open world, core RPG experience many have been hoping to see in the franchise for years.

But is it actually true? Luckily, we only have to wait a couple days to see what it is they are actually teasing, but we’re looking forward to it, regardless. What do you hope to see? Let us know down below!
