One new piece of DCU casting news to share as it seems Pruitt Taylor Vince has been cast as Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. The news was first published by TheWrap who say veteran film and TV actor Taylor Vince has been cast as ‘Pa’ Kent. Still no word on who may be playing Martha (say my name) Kent.

There’s not much to say about the casting from the outlet as you can see below.

‘James Gunn’s “Superman” has cast veteran character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent aka Pa Kent, TheWrap has learned exclusively.’

Taylor Vince as said above is a veteran actor on both big and small screen. Some credits include Stranger Things, Agents of SHIELD, Bird Box, Constantine and many more. I would also say that Vince Taylor often plays odd ball characters, but I like this choice for Jonathan. I like that there’s no movie star quality about him, which works for Jonathan. Jor-El needs to look like a movie star for me, but not Jonathan.

One assumes Jonathan will at some point die, given that’s an important part of Superman’s psyche. However, this is not an origin story so it may not happen on screen. As for Martha there is still no word who may play Superman’s mom? Though, Martha normally does survive into Clark’s adult life as Superman, so I expect the role will be, or has been cast.

So far there has been no confirmation of this casting by James Gunn. I do expect that possible today on social media if this is legit. Gunn tends to just go with these things once a deal is signed. If of course a deal actually has been signed by Vince Taylor and this is not just advanced talks. It’s also fair to say given how long Superman has been filming that Jonathan is not a major part of the overall runtime of the film.
