Psych was a program on USA Network that ran for eight seasons, from 2006 through 2014, with 120 episodes in total. It told the story of Shawn Spencer (James Roday) utilized his unbelievable skills of observation to become a fake psychic detective, with the aid of his best friend for life, Gus (Dule Hill). The show was an hour long, but leaned heavier on comedy than nearly any other show in the format at the time. Full of pop culture and film references — especially those of the ’80s variety — the show’s real strength was its cast made up of Roday, Hill, Timothy Omundson, Corbin Bernsen, Maggie Lawson, and Kirsten Nelson.
Shawn and Gus may have signed off three years ago, but never fear, Psych fans, the gang is getting back together! Per ComingSoon.net, USA Network has officially announced Psych: The Movie, set to air on USA this December!
The made for TV movie will be directed by series creator Steve Franks, who will write it alongside Roday. Returning are all your favorites, Lassiter (Omundson), Juliet (Lawson), Henry Spencer (Corbin Bernsen) and Chief Vick (Nelson). The official synopsis follows:
The ambitious friends — along with some returning fan-favorite characters — come together during the holidays after a mystery assailant targets one of their own. A comedic thrill-ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable Psych team pursues the bad guys, justice… and, of course, food!
Grab your pineapples everyone, Psych is back! I’m glad they haven’t waited so long for a “reunion” special of this sort. With only three years since the series ended, expect Shawn and Gus to jump right back into the action without losing a step!
