In the most recent episode of LOS FANBOYS, we discussed the recent DAREDEVIL season two trailer, which showed Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) in all his angry glory. Given the character’s popularity, as well as the great actor (Jon Bernthal) who’s playing him in the series, it seemed like Marvel and Netflix were primed to spinoff this fittingly violent character.
No such luck, Marvel TV Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb revealed in a recent interview with Digital Spy.
“I think that’s something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that’s actually happening. It’s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them.”
This is a bit of a shame, as from what we’ve seen, Bernthal is absolutely crushing that role as the Punisher. However, they seemed to bring that character into DAREDEVIL for absolutely the right reasons, and I’d hate to see them deviate from their character-driven approach simply because it’d be cool to see Frank Castle in his own series. That being said, the world of TV is an unpredictable beast. Should Marvel find a fitting extension of the Punisher’s story (and should Netflix find the ratings for DAREDEVIL season two respectable), who’s to say they won’t go through with a spinoff?
What do you think? Would you want to see a Punisher spinoff? Let us know down below!
Season two of DAREDEVIL hits Netflix on March 18, 2016.
