Quentin Tarantino Thinks His Star Trek Movie Will Happen, But Not With Him As Director

We spent months and months covering what felt like one of the most out-of-left-field scenarios. I’m talking about Quentin Tarantino possibly directing a franchise film in the form of Star Trek. While Tarantino had always proven that he wasn’t a snob in terms of what he consumed, the stuff he puts out doesn’t really feel like the kind of stuff that would be associated with a big brand.

And yet, for a long time, it seemed as though he could direct a Star Trek movie. While he wasn’t on deck to write it (that honor went to The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith), he seemed interested in helming it. But in recent weeks, there were reports of him backing off of that project.

But will it even happen now?

“I think they might make that movie,” Tarantino told Deadline, “but I just don’t think I’m going to direct it. It’s a good idea. They should definitely do it and I’ll be happy to come in and give them some notes on the first rough cut.”

Tarantino’s Trek film isn’t the only plan they have with this series. Noah Hawley currently has a film in the works — one that will utilize a different cast. But is this a franchise that can benefit from two vastly different experiences? We may actually see in the near future.
