According to some new Barside Buzz, RDJ may return to the MCU… as Doctor Doom! The information initiated with Jeff Sneider on his latest TheInsneider Newsletter. As you know from our earlier reports today, Sneider claimed he was gonna scoop the Russos returning on The Hot Mic. However, THR beat him to the punch. In that show he teased he may be forced to drop some more Marvel information. He then went on to drop a few hints at Doctor Doom.

Well in his newsletter, available only to subscribers, Sneider says what he’s heard about Doctor Doom. The leaker says that RDJ is in talks to return initially as an Iron Man variant, but one that will eventually become Doctor Doom, and the new villain of Secret Wars.

Now, let’s take this one with a pinch of salt for now. Would Doom being an alt-Universe Tony Stark really work? Would fans not just be disappointed they didn’t get Victor Von Doom? These are some of the questions I would be asking. Don’t get me wrong, I have zero doubt that RDJ would play a great Doom. In fact it’s not even a question really for me. That being said, I’m not sure it makes as much sense long term. Given how expensive RDJ is, would it not be easier hiring someone cheaper to play Victor?

I guess ‘in talks’ does not mean signed. However, I also get the feeling Sneider was going to keep this one under his hat, until he got scooped by THR. He blames Marvel Studios for that, saying they originally wanted to announce the Russos at SDCC. In other words, he’s dropping this one early as a way to say, here I am Marvel. Let’s see if it checks out?

Could Tony Stark in the Fantastic Four’s Universe have become Doom? Or, is this Doom from a completely different reality? It would be extremely confusing I think if that is the case. However, I will wait till this one gets debunked or confirmed before I get into much speculation.
