Check out the first four chapters of Stormlight Archive 4: Rhythm of War.

If you can believe it, we’re just a few short months away from the November 17 release of the fourth Stormlight Archive novel, Rhythm of War. With this entry, author Brandon Sanderson will take us even deeper into the mythology of Roshar and the conflict between the humans and Voidbringers. This fourth volume will act as the penultimate edition of this narrative arc, which will conclude with the fifth novel. 

And in celebration of this release, Brandon Sanderson is doing what he does best — giving stuff away for free. If you had a chance to catch the Comic-Con @ Home video from Sanderson, you not only had a chance to see him read Chapter 7 of the novel, but he made an interesting comment. He said that we had already seen the first six chapters get released. But, at the time, there were no chapters released. So, what was the deal?

Sanderson later clarified in a recent livestream that the video was recorded early, and when they’d recorded it, they’d planned on releasing chapters earlier. However, because of their copyediting schedule, they couldn’t push out chapters early enough. But fret not. Sanderson and co. will be making up for lost time. As of this writing, you can now read THE FIRST FOUR CHAPTERS of Rhythm of War. This includes the Prologue and Chapters 1-3. You can check them out HERE.

They will start by releasing a couple chapters every Tuesday and do so until they catch up to where they would have been had they started earlier. From there, they will release a new chapter a week until November 17. And yes, your math is correct. If they do so, they will be releasing a large chunk of the book.

Sanderson essentially said this allows them to get the best of both worlds. They can release this book as a sort of serialized tale before publishing the remaining two-thirds in book form. I certainly won’t be complaining and I doubt most fans would.
