Reine Swart is no stranger to horror.
The actress burst into the horror scene as a mother suffers from a supernatural postpartum trauma in The Lullaby. Most recently, she starred in Triggered about a bunch of friends strapped with time-ticking explosive vests in the middle of the forest.
As her feature film directorial debut, The Hex (Heks) tells the horror tale of witchdoctor sorcery.
The film stars Coco Lloyd (Trypophobia; Footballers’ Wives), Mari Molefe van Heerden (Koringberg, Skoonma), Hungani Ndlovu (Scandal, Because You’re Black), Mary-Anne Barlow (Black Sails, Cape Town), Christopher Jaftha (Table Manners, Bedford Wives), and Stephanie Sandows (Scandal, Losing Lerato). Swart wrote and directed the feature film.
Here’s the brief synopsis of the film:
A grieving British woman unravels her murdered mother’s secrets connected to a South African witch doctor’s curse. She wants to put an end to this haunting hex by traveling to South Africa, but instead it casts her deeper into sinister depths.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with director and writer Reine Swart on her directorial feature film debut.
Previously, Reine Swart directed a couple of short films titled Trypophobia and Skoonma. On the acting side, she has an impressive film resume that includes starring alongside James Badge Dale in The Empty Man and working with Bel Powley and Tye Sheridan in Detour. She had roles in the popular Syfy series Dominion and Z-Nation in her credits. Her career debut with the principal lead in the Afrikaans TV show Villa Rose while finishing a degree in engineering. Other feature films included Die Pro, Jamillah and Aladdin, Losing Adison, and The Refuge.
