Release Windows For Star Wars Shows - Plus Strange Star Wars Movie News

Release windows for Star Wars shows Andor, Mando S3 and Ahsoka. Plus some strange Star Wars movie news in a new far ranging article on the future of Star Wars from Vanity Fair. There is also some rather strange Star Wars movie news, but we will get to that soon. With quotes and access to those in the know at Lucasfilm, the trade dropped a massive update on all things Star Wars. The article features quotes from all those involved, like Diego Luna on Andor, Rosario Dawson on Ahsoka, McGregor and Christensen on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Additionally there are quotes from the various showrunners and Studio president Kathleen Kennedy. However I cannot cover the full article in one news story. I am therefore splitting into the most important pieces of news, in my humble opinion.

Release Windows For Disney+ Content

First up let’s look at release windows. Outside of Obi-Wan Kenobi on May 27th, we have no solid dates for the next three live-action shows on the slate. However this VF article has at least given us viable windows of release for Andor, The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka. Andor should arrive late-Summer this year. It then dates Mando S3 as returning late-2022, then in a separate section of the article changes this to late-’22 – early-’23. So far this completely matches what most people following Star Wars news were predicting. I myself predicted Mando might just make ’22, but I felt it was more likely for early ’23. As for Ahsoka, we only get a broader window of 2023, which I think anyone could have told you irrespective of this article. Here is the caption on the images we cannot share from the article.

Mon Mothma: In Andor, Genevieve O’Reilly’s galactic senator secretly leads an uprising against the Empire. Cassian Andor: Diego Luna stars as a man who believes in nothing but eventually risks everything to aid the Rebellion. Andor premieres late summer 2022. Din Djarin: Pedro Pascal’s bounty hunter, a.k.a. the Mandalorian, has such an orthodox devotion to his culture that he only takes off his helmet in dire circumstances. Season three of The Mandalorian returns in late 2022 or early 2023. Ahsoka Tano: Rosario Dawson’s alien warrior is deeply attuned to the Force, but some fans call her a “gray” Jedi, because she doesn’t commit to absolutes like her brethren. Ahsoka is scheduled to premiere in 2023

There are two other shows mentioned, but I will cover them in another article. Suffice to say no windows were mentioned for any show other than those I have covered above.

Movies

The focus of this article was definitely on the TV side of the coin. However Kennedy did have a few words to say about the movies and one of them at least is intriguing. For a start, I’ll begin by saying there mention of Rogue Squadron, though only that it comes after Waititi’s movie now.

However the strange part of this article for me was the comment on the oft-mooted Kevin Feige produced Star Wars movie. Kennedy seems to pretend like it’s not happening, but maybe one day the stars will align.

““I would love to see what movie he might come up with,” Kennedy says. “But right now, no, there isn’t anything specifically.”

However, recent comments from Michael Waldron tell us he us writing a Star Wars movie. Even earlier comments linked that movie to Kevin Feige as well. So I’m slightly confused now. If a Kevin Feige Star Wars movie isn’t a done deal, then what the fudge is Waldron writing now?

There was some small mention of Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie as said above. However only that it’s coming, and likely the first movie to drop.

Finally Kennedy commented on THAT Rian Johnson trilogy, which many fans think we’ll never see.

“Rian has been unbelievably busy with Knives Out and the deal that he made at Netflix for multiple movies.”

Clear as mud on that one then. Ultimately whilst the focus was on the TV side, I did get the feeling the movie side is less settled and happy. I guess we may find out more when Star Wars Celebration hits next week?

What do you think of this rather strange Star Wars movie news? Do you have any opinions on the release windows for Star Wars shows Andor, Mando S3 and Ahsoka? As always, let us know what you thought below or over on Discord.
