Rhythm of War is completely done, and now we await the cover.
Yeah, I know. Many of you have likely been indulging in the two chapters of author Brandon Sanderson has been releasing a week. But that didn’t necessarily mean his work on Rhythm of War had been complete yet. All it meant was that those chapters were complete. But how much longer would it be until the book was 100% done? Yes, Sanderson had finished actually writing it, but there’s still the all-important copyediting review that every novel needs. Well, Sanderson has updated the progress bars on his site.
According to him, Rhythm of War has officially moved from 85% done to 100% done of the copyediting review. This means that he and his team have gone through all the copyedits and either approved or rejected them. In short, the novel is now 100% done and ready to move on to the next process. Given that books usually have well over half a year between a finished manuscript and publication, they still have quite the sprint ahead. That being said, given how well Sanderson’s book sells, I can expect that Tor has a good relationship with the printing presses needed in order to clear this three-month window they have ahead of them.

But that isn’t the part I’m most excited for. One of the main draws of The Stormlight Archive for me is the art. You have the color pictures on the interior, the maps, and various other in-world art that is shared. But, of course, almost nothing is as influential or important as the cover art. The legendary Michael Whelan has been responsible for the covers of The Stormlight Archive, and I’ve been waiting on pins and needles to see what we’d be getting for Rhythm of War.
Yes, we have seen the art for the U.K. version of the novel, but as far as the U.S. goes, all we’ve had is some standard placeholder art. During a recent stream, Sanderson did state Whelan was still experimenting with covers, so I think it’s fair to say we have at least a few more weeks until we get anything worth seeing.
