Rip Hunter Won’t Be Returning In Legends Of Tomorrow Season 4

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow on The CW.

Change has always been a big part of Legends of Tomorrow. Ever since the first few episodes of the show, it was clear that they were comfortable with rotating the main characters in and out as the story fit, with there being a good number of important deaths as that first season culminated. This trend has continued on ever since, with the series-starter Rip Hunter rotating in as a good series regular, to recurring, to bad, etc.

However, Season 3 ended with a bit of a shocker when even he bit the dust while sacrificing himself to save our heroes. Given that this is a show about time travel, it’s not completely outside of the realm of possibility that actor Arthur Darvill could be back, right? I mean, how many times has Captain Cold returned to the Arrowverse in some form or another?

However, speaking with Digital Spy, showrunner Phil Klemmer seemed to indicate that the character was done. At least for now:

“I believe he’s done, for this season. But, I mean, Arthur Darvill is the greatest. We’ve got a terrible habit of killing the greatest people. It’s totally stupid.”

Klemmer has indicated in the past that his return is possible, and I’d argue that it will likely still happen given the nature of the show, but as it stands, I’m inclined to believe the showrunner in terms of Season 4 — but don’t think that Season 4 means never.
