The known animation director Rob Minkoff brings us the story of the underdog in the world of cats in Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank.
The Synopsis
A hard-on-his-luck hound Hank (Michael Cera, “Superbad”) finds himself in a town full of cats who need a hero to defend them from a ruthless villain’s (Ricky Gervais, “The Office”) evil plot to wipe their village off the map. With help from a reluctant teacher (Samuel L. Jackson, “Pulp Fiction”) to train him, our underdog must assume the role of town samurai and team up with the villagers to save the day. The only problem… cats hate dogs!
The Palo Alto native graduated from the Character Animation department from California Institute of the Arts. From the beginning he started working for the Walt Disney Animation Studio. Some of his 80s projects are The Great Mouse Detective, Brave Cauldron, Oliver & Company and The Little Mermaid. In the 90s he got his big break with The Lion King and broke into the live-action films with the Stuart Little franchise. Minkoff has also directed for DreamWorks Animation and Netflix.

I was connected to speak with Rob Minkoff to discuss the making of Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank. Minkoff discussed the film’s storyline and gave his opinion about the relationships between cats and dogs. In addition to sharing a cat story from his childhood. I of course had to throw in a question about The Real Desperate Housewives of Beverly Hills being the husband of one of the current reality stars.
