Robert Zemeckis Loves The Latest Roger Rabbit Script, But Doesn’t Think It Will Get Made

If you grew up in the 80s or somewhere close to them, you more likely than not remember a quaint little film called Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The story goes that there was always a sequel planned for the film many people of my age hold as a classic. The first planned continuation of the story had a plot that dealt Roger Rabbit finding his birth mother, though the idea was shot down. Later on, J.J. Abrams was reported to be working on a script, and after that the writer of the original film was supposedly working on a prequel idea that never made it to screen.

Speaking with Yahoo! director Robert Zemeckis, who directed the original Roger Rabbit, talked about the most recent attempt at a script. A script that Zemeckis happens to be a big fan of, but doesn’t think the will ever be produced.

“I don’t know where it fits in in their universe. There’s no princess in it, so I don’t know where that would be. There’s a wonderful script sitting at Disney that is really good, but I don’t think it’s on their radar.”

I hope Zemeckis is wrong, about Disney not wanting to make the film, not that the script is good. In the age of revivals an reboots, why not? It’s been long enough that any new film won’t taint the iconic nature of the original. I loved this film as a kid and will get stuck watching it whenever I happen to catch it on television. If you ask me, it’s worth a shot, especially if Zemeckis loves the script.
