Fans of the RoboCop franchise have some bittersweet information circulating around the news world. A prequel series is in the works, however, oddly enough, it will not feature the franchise’s namesake robot.
Even though the series hasn’t been fully greenlit, writer of the original film, Ed Neumeier, is working on the upcoming show, and had the following to say while speaking with MovieHolen.net. You can check it out below.
“It has all the cool stuff about RoboCop except no RoboCop. There’s the idea of doing things about business and law enforcement in the city of Detroit a minute-and-a-half in the future. It would be a way to do all sorts of stories about business and tech, Silicon Valley, corporations, snakes in suits, cops, all that. It’s a wonderful rich tapestry.”
I will refrain from making snarky comments until I watch the series. I made some comments about Gotham before it aired, something like, “How can you have a Gotham City series without Batman?” but far more condescending. While Gotham wasn’t perfect and bordered on silly at times, it was much better than I thought it would be and gave fans what I think is the best on-screen version of Oswald Cobblepot, better known as Penguin.
I watch the films way back and thought they were entertaining, but I was never a huge fan of the franchise. Having said that, I will still give the series the standard 3-4 episodes to grab my interest, and see what happens.
