Rocketman Featurette And Poster See Taron Egerton As Elton John

Dexter Fletcher. The director of feel-good biopics. The man was responsible for the unflinchingly positive Eddie the Eagle and he also picked up the reins for Bohemian Rhapsody when Bryan Singer was canned. With the upcoming film Rocketman, he will utilize his skills for another music legend: Elton John.

John is set to be portrayed by Kingsman‘s Taron Egerton. Fittingly enough, Egerton has already performed an Elton John song on screen in the Illumination Entertainment film Sing, and he even acted alongside John himself in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Pretty much, it looks like this was an inevitability. His world would collide with John’s yet again.

In the latest featurette, we see Egerton’s take on a few of his iconic songs, as well as his take on John himself. No disrespect to Elton John, but I didn’t think they’d be able to dress down Egerton enough to make this role believable, but it looks like they did as good of a job as one could expect for the movie.

One last thing to keep in mind is that this won’t just be a musical biopic, but a musical FANTASY. So, with that in mind (and with John still kicking), it really seems like they can really lean into the feel-good nature that Fletcher brings to his movies. But what do you think of this featurette? Is Egerton perfect for the role? Let us know your thoughts down below!
