I’ll admit it. I’m not the biggest music person, nor am I the biggest fan of Sir Elton John (though I adore The Lion King, that’s pretty much as fanboyish I get about his work). That being said, I am a big fan of artistic biopics and I’ve grown to appreciate Taron Egerton in whatever it is, be it in action films like Kingsman or fantastical biopics like Eddie the Eagle.
And speaking of fantastical biopics, that’s pretty much what we can expect from this one. Egerton is reteaming with Eddie the Eagle helmer Dexter Fletcher (who also helped bring Bohemian Rhapsody to the finish line for Fox and Bryan Singer) to give us an equally-inaccurate take on the musician Elton John’s life in the film Rocketman. The first indication of fantasy is the fact that you have Taron Egerton playing you (though Egerton does a great job of dressing himself down to better represent John’s spirit), but this first teaser shows that this one won’t be your typical biopic by its closing seconds.
In addition to seemingly-random dance numbers, we also see an odd scene where he and everyone around him start to float into the air. Okay. I think I’m board.
Below is the official synopsis for Rocketman:
“ROCKETMAN is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard. “
