Roland Emmerich Says Marvel, DC And Star Wars Ruining The Movie Industry – I Say He Is

Finally, the SAG-AFTRA strike is over! The deadlock was broken and a deal has been agreed, so find out which movies will start filming ASAP!

Everyone’s favorite movie maker Roland Emmerich says Marvel, DC and Star Wars are ruining the movie industry. You may remember Emmerich from multi-Oscar winning movies like Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla 98′, 10,000 BC, The Day After Tomorrow, and many more films we all have pride of place in our collections. (Disclaimer, the previous two sentences may contain fabrications and intense sarcasm). Well Emmerich was talking to Den of Geek recently and he says it’s getting really hard to make high-quality movies, like Moonfall, because of Marvel, DC, and Star Wars hogging all the theatre space.

“Oh yes,” Emmerich tells Den of Geek when asked if the disaster genre has changed in recent years. “Because naturally Marvel and DC Comics, and Star Wars, have pretty much taken over. It’s ruining our industry a little bit, because nobody does anything original anymore.”

Irony

Ok, I’m going to drop the sarcasm and talk straight. Roland Emmerich has the cheek to say that these movies he refers to are unoriginal. Yet Emmerich almost does the same thing every time! Emmerich makes expensive looking movies out of z-grade scripts and ideas. It’s the kind of garbage you’d see in a self-funded Syfy channel movie. People even say things like, “ah it’s an Emmerich movie, what do you expect.” However, it attracts people to the movies because he spends millions making the destruction of the planet look really good.

Nay, Mr. Emmerich I say this to you. Your kind of movies were ruining the industry and it’s the likes of the MCU, DC, and Star Wars returning that has saved it. Pre-MCU I found there was very little to get excited about with movies. In fact, the next Emmerich disaster movie was not bad compared to some of the dross being peddled to us as a blockbuster. It’s also worth noting that Emmerich complains about Star Wars here and to date, there are still only 11 Star Wars live-action movies that hit theatres, and that’s over 44 years. In far less time Emmerich has produced, written, or directed a ton of worse movies than any Star Wars film and frankly I only like 4 of those Star Wars movies.

Moonfall……. LOL

Moonfall

Let’s discuss the worst trailer I saw when I went to a theatre to see Spider-Man: No Way Home. This trailer was so bad, and the movie looked so awful I actually told people about it, which must make it extra special. That movie was Moonfall.

First, we have the absolutely ludicrous plot, the Moon is getting closer (it’s actually constantly getting further away and can be measured by scientists easily, but you know scientists are always lying about stuff right?). As the Moon gets closer it tears up the planet Earth by gravitational forces. And yet, we see the heroes jumping over floating earthquakes on cars in the trailer, sure buddy, sure.

Of course, NASA is covering it up, because why not, it’s a good laugh? Luckily for the rest of Earth, Sam Tarley has been looking out his window in Castle Black (pictured above) and noticed the Moon getting bigger and uncovers the conspiracy. Only one thing for it, get a grizzled former NASA employee, to take Sam up to space with a hot girl and save the day. Uh oh! It turns out the Moon is made of alien’s and they want to kill us all. Now only Captain Square Jaw, hot Halle and Sam Tarley can stop the big CGI tentacles from eating us all up.

I’ve never seen Moonfall, I don’t have to. The trailer told me the entire plot of the movie, in chronological order. Which I actually should thank Emmerich for because it saves the trouble of actually watching it when it’s free on cable TV one day.

Now, when Martin Scorsese comes out and criticizes Marvel movies, I disagree but there’s a respect there. Scorsese is a genius. But frankly if ran a movie studio I would have a message left with security that Emmerich is not allowed anywhere near the building. And I’d block his calls. It’s not personal, this is purely subjective Mr. Emmerich, in that I personally don’t like the movies you make or the stories you write. Thanks for creating Stargate though, the movie was crap, but the TV shows were brilliant.

So yeah, if you like Emmerich’s movies, oops, sorry readers. After all this is just one man’s opinion. Thankfully that statement is also true when Roland Emmerich says Marvel, DC and Star Wars ruining the movie industry. Sound off below as always, whether you disagree with me or not.
