There’s no doubt about it: Quentin Tarantino’s latest film is bound to have some controversy attached. The auteur is no stranger to controversy — pretty much every film he’s made has gotten someone upset in one way or another — but given the nature of the story behind Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, there was bound to be a few barrels of ink spent lashing out at the filmmaker.

In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood features the real-life personas Charles Manson, Roman Polanski, and Sharon Tate. Tate was tragically murdered by the Manson family, and her husband, Polanski lived on to be a controversial figure himself after being charged with sexual abuse against a 13-year-old girl. Polanski has evaded U.S. custody for decades since.

So, yeah, there was no way there’d be no controversy. In this instance, it looks like one loud voice to speak out is Emmanuelle Seigner, Polanski’s wife and French actress, who took to Instagram to write the following (translated via Yahoo!):

“I am just saying that it doesn’t bother them (in Hollywood) to make a film which takes Roman and his tragic story… while at the same time they have made him a pariah. And all without consulting him of course.”

Understandably, she seems perturbed at the prospect of Tate’s murder getting screen time in a potentially-insensitive way, but she is also upset at how Polanski is supposedly portrayed.

Having not seen the film myself, I can’t say for sure how he’s been portrayed, but I’ve heard that he doesn’t come across well.

In addition to this, there have been complaints lodged at Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for its violence against women and lack of dialogue for Tate’s character, played by Margot Robbie.

I’m sure this won’t be the last time we hear a complaint.
