While his latest film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, currently has the spotlight, Oscar-winning director Ron Howard gives hopes to those fans that have always wanted a sequel to Howard’s 1988 fantasy film, Willow. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Howard confirmed there have been talks of continuing the franchise, perhaps not with a direct sequel, but something more like a spin-off.
“I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow…We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”
While it is hard to know what “a little talk,” actually means, but it is nice to know that there are discussions. Howard continued saying working on Solo has got him thinking about Willow again.
“I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired [sic] to get into Solo.”
Willow was a fun film and represents the 1980s well. Now is the time for something like this, the nostalgia craze that started with Stranger Things is still going strong, with reboots and revivals everywhere. Willow is a classic fantasy film that many folks grew up enjoying, and those same people would turn out for a sequel.
