‘Daredevil’ News: Rosario Dawson Talks Season 2 and Series Crossovers

Those who have seen Netflix’s “Daredevil” series had a lot to love. From the gritty tone to the beautifully choreographed fight scenes, it was an entertaining watch throughout. Though, above all else, what “Daredevil” got right were the characters. Not only did they nail Matt Murdock, but they somehow managed to nail Kingpin, and make Murdock’s partner, Foggy Nelson, a completely watchable character. And, of course, we can’t forget the performance Rosario Dawson gave as Claire Temple, the “night nurse” who became the go-to gal for Daredevil whenever he got beat up too badly.

Claire became a huge favorite in the fan community. Such a favorite is she that it’s amazing she’s essentially an original character. Created as a cross between Claire Temple, love interest of Luke Cage, and Linda Carter, heroine of “Night Nurse,” Dawson’s character did a lot to ground Murdock’s character in reality.

While at E3, MTV managed to catch up with the actress and ask about her thoughts on the character and her role in “Daredevil.”

“She’s funny, she’s wry, she’s strong—she’s built for that world, because she’s great under pressure. She’s someone—hero or not—you’d want to have in a dire situation… I really just liked her arc all the way through.

I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes, because her eyes have been opened up to this other world—and she’s crossed the line. You know, this is someone who helps people, and she’s been violent now but seeing the need for it. I think there’s a lot to grapple with, and I think that’s what’s exciting about using this show to explore street-level characters: it makes it that much closer to us.”

Dawson didn’t stop there. She also went on to discuss what the appearance of The Punisher in “Daredevil” could bring to the story.

“That’s going to raise the stakes so much more, because Matt Murdock almost behaves like the Punisher in the first season. [Matt] crosses the line quite often, so it’s going to be really interesting to see how they differentiate them and where that goes.”

So how will Rosario Dawson’s character play into all this in “Daredevil” season two? Unfortunately, it’s kind of impossible to say at this point. For all we know her overall involvement in season two could be minute. After all, a lot of fans were expecting Dawson to be a lot more involved in season one than she was. I mean, after hiring an actress like Rosario Dawson, you’d want to use her, right?

What may not have been as apparent in season one of “Daredevil” is how much the filmmakers may be setting Temple up to be one of the main links between the series, rather than just another character in “Daredevil.” Sure, she wasn’t in a lot of episodes in “Daredevil.” When “Luke Cage” and “Jessica Jones” come around, she may only be in a handful or so episodes in each of their series as well. But together, it can help to give the universe an incredibly cohesive feel, not unlike what Agent Coulson and Nick Fury did in Phase 1 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

“So it feels like, A) I finally get to join Marvel. I get to do it in a way that’s completely altering the universe, which is awesome. And then, B) I have no idea where it’s going, because here I was having this fling with Matt Murdock, and now Luke Cage is coming up, and Jessica Jones…

…I have no idea how they’re wanting me to come back or in which way, shape or form. But it’s nice to know that I’ve got a character who does kind of string everyone together and bring all those worlds together.”
