Ross And The Leader Set Photos From New World Order Plus Thunderbolts Gets A New Writer

In a post SDCC interview, actor Tim Blake Nelson talks about his return as The Leader in Captain America: Brave New World.

A couple of Marvel related stories to share today, first we have some Cap 4 set photos showing both President Ross and The Leader on the set of New World Order. However, we also have news that Thunderbolts gets a new writer. Let’s start with Captain America: New World Order.

The recent set photos which you can peruse for yourself at JustJared.com are not that exciting. We see Harrison Ford in a suit walking to set, then we see Tim Blake Nelson walk to set. Perhaps the most interesting detail that has been picked up by fans here is that you can clearly see Blake Nelson’s hands and lower arms are painted green. So far there are no other signs of The Leader looking like, well The Leader from the comics.

Perhaps that transformation has not fully taken hold? When we last saw Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk, the blood from Bruce landed on his head and started shaping it weirdly. Of course this links into the comics version where The Leader was green, but only had an enlarged brain and intelligence, no strength. I guess we will just have to wait and see, or wait for new set photos telling us more?

Thunderbolts

Cap 4 set photos showing both President Ross and The Leader on the set of New World Order. Plus Thunderbolts gets a new writer.

We also have news from Variety that Thunderbolts has a new script writer. Check it out.

“Lee Sung Jin, creator and showrunner of Netflix’s Beef, has taken on writing duties for Marvel’s upcoming Thunderbolts. Lee has previously written for Tuca & Bertie, Dave and Silicon Valley. Thunderbolts will be his first writing credit on a produced feature film. The gig is a reunion with Beef director Jake Schreier, who is directing the Marvel movie, and co-star Steven Yeun, a member of the film’s sprawling ensemble cast.”

Given the cast are in place, the movie seems reasonably set, I’m guessing this is no page one rewrite. It’s likely Lee Sung Jin will be taking a pass at a previous version of the script, which as you know is pretty common in Hollywood. However decide for yourself with the writers comments below.

“I’m rewriting it,” Lee told Variety in an interview promoting “Beef.” “It’s the whole squad again. Jake asked me if I would come on board. I probably should have taken a break, but there’s a lot of themes and exciting things about the movie that I couldn’t help but sign on.”

“It’s truly an honor to be part of a Marvel thing, but it is very different. One, it’s not my project, it’s Jake’s. It’s such a large scope and scale that the type of writing is very different. At the same time, the process feels the same, I’m still talking to Jake every day. … I think once you find the squad of people you love and trust and are so talented, you do everything you can to keep working with them.”

Thunderbolts is expected to begin shooting in June and is scheduled for release on July 26, 2024. Well, given all the delay rumors we shall see if that date sticks for now. I’m not convinced.
