According to actor Jeremy Allen White, his character Rotta the Hutt will team up with Mando in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The next Star Wars movie is of course a continuation of TV series The Mandalorian and White is voicing a now adult Rotta the Hutt in the film. Rotta has previously only appeared animated in The Clone Wars and was just a child at the time. However, The Mandalorian and Grogu is set 5+ years post-Return of the Jedi and Rotta is grown up.
How exactly Rotta features into the plot of this film we still have little clue. Though, speaking on The Graham Norton Show this weekend, White did have a few comments about his character. Here’s what he said when Norton showed him a picture of Jabba the Hutt.
“That’s correct. That’s dad. You know, it’s interesting…I can’t say too much about it, but no, I look very much like that in the film. I just do voice work, I’m not putting on any [motion capture], you know.”
“He’s just a bit broader, but still a Hutt. It’s him and the Mandalorian running around for a lot of the movie together. Rotta can move quickly.”
Now there were some rumors Mando is sent to rescue Rotta, but from who, or why is unknown. I guess team up could mean after said rescue has taken place. I mean I’d argue Princess Leia teams up with Han and Luke post rescue to escape. I’m merely pointing out there’s a lot of context missing from the picture, which is fine by me.

The fact White says Rotta can move fast is also a match for him looking a more athletic Hutt in the trailer. One of the earliest rumors we had that turned out to be true was that Rotta would be ‘buff’ in the movie. That was also mixed with a rumor that Rotta is some sort of gladiator. That appears to be correct based again on the small shot we see of Rotta in the trailer (see header image).
Why Mando would need to save/rescue a gladiator Hutt, 5-7 years after his father’s death remains to be seen? Perhaps Rotta is not exactly volunteering to be a gladiator, but forced by some antagonist?
What do you think of a Rotta and Mando team up in The Mandalorian and Grogu? Are you interested in the small little bits of plot we have for the film? Will you go see it without any other trailers, or does the Rotta the Hutt thing have you tapped out already?
