That’s right folks, it’s another rumored character set to appear in one of the upcoming MCU movies. This time it’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Before anyone chimes in with, “oh no, another rumoured character”, well, that’s what we expect to hear during the ramp up to production beginning on a movie. Almost every MCU movie will at some point introduce new characters that have not appeared on screen in the MCU yet. Not all of these will go on to be in team Avengers, but we definitely need an influx of new villain roles and secondary roles as well.

Today’s rumor comes from The Illuminerdi, who say that comic book character Clea is set to make her MCU debut in the Doctor Strange sequel. This is in addition to the likes of Brother Voodoo, whom we have been told will play an antagonistic role in the movie and American Chavez rumored lately (see related section below).

Clea is an interesting character because in the comic books Clea is an on/off romantic foil for Stephen Strange. She can, however, begin in more of an antagonistic role as she is the niece of Dormammu, the evil lord of the Dark Dimension that Strange defeated in the first movie. Clea in the comics, however, becomes a companion of Strange and ends up being very important in the battle against Dormammu himself in the end.

That would make an interesting character, someone to come in and initially be against Strange. Only for (possibly) these two to end up forming a relationship with one another over time. Though, the MCU does not always use characters in the same way they did in the comics. Who knows, Clea could merely be a villain alone in this version, though it seems a bit of a waste. In fact, there were many fans of Strange who were surprised Clea did not show up in the first Doctor Strange, given the Dormammu connection in that movie.

Casting calls for this movie indicate Marvel are looking for an undisclosed female lead, age range from late 20s to early 40s. This would definitely match up with the Clea character. How she will fit in and what the overall story will be about, your guess is as good as ours at this point. Next stop for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has to be finding a new director though. After Scott Derrickson left the project recently under the old ‘creative differences’ header Marvel has not yet announced his replacement and time is moving on.
