RUMOR: Is Disney Already Working On A Mulan Sequel?

Disney’s Mulan is the next live-action animated remake to hit theaters. Its original release was supposed to take place at the end of March. Due to theaters being shut down it was pushed back to July 24th, which right now also seems sketchy.

But even though we haven’t seen the film yet, Disney seems to be thinking ahead. According to The Disinsider the studio feels that Mulan is going to be something special. So they are gearing up to tell another story featuring the young female warrior. They do note that this film would not follow the story of Mulan 2 but an original story.

Being that we aren’t even through the first film, there isn’t much information about what the film will be about. They are reporting that producer Chris Bender, Jason Reed and Jake Weiner will return to produce the sequel. Currently there are no writers attached to the project and it’s not known if Niki Caro would also helm the sequel.

Even with all these plans happening, this sequel depends on the domestic and international box office numbers. Specifically China’s numbers. With the current global situation it’s hard for me to believe that Mulan will be released in July. I think it will be a few more months before we see the opening of movie theaters.

As for my thoughts on a sequel, it’s hard to give an opinion on a film that I haven’t seen yet. But they do have an opportunity to possibly create a two or three film franchise with the character.
