Rumor: Is Grand Theft Auto Returning To Vice City?

Take this one with a grain of salt… and logic. Grand Theft Auto is one of the most popular game franchises there is. It’s last iteration, GTA V, is still going strong thanks to the GTA Online play it offers. It is almost a sure thing that there will be a new game coming in the future, but where would that game take place? Well, Vice City of course.

Why Vice City? Well, GTA IV brought us back to Liberty City, which is a New York City analog, and GTA V takes place in San Andreas, which is a copy of Los Angeles. That only leaves Vice City from the PS2 era of GTA games. See? Logic!

This rumor does have a source though, and it’s one that is admittedly unverified:

Unverified doesn’t mean wrong though. As we said, there is a lot of logic for the next game to take place in the Florida based city. The bigger question, for this writer at least, is what decade will the game take place in? The original GTA: Vice City was set in the 80s. The game borrowed from the settings of shows like Miami Vice and movies like Scarface. A modern take on Miami and Florida may not be as immersive a setting as one in the 80s. It doesn’t have to be a period piece though. If you’ll remember, the first game to take place in San Andreas was set in the 90s but GTA V is set in the current decade.
