RUMOR: Is Namor Is Coming To The MCU?

Whilst we know the main cast for most of the upcoming Phase 4 MCU movies and shows, there are still going to be a lot of roles not yet cast, especially for those farthest out still. Today’s news comes on the form of a casting call from Marvel and speculation is running wild that it could be a bigger role than we might expect at this time.

According to The GWW, who have been pretty accurate with casting news thus far, Marvel are on the lookout for a character, codenamed “David,” who is described as a “ruler of an ancient, distant kingdom.” The studio is searching for an actor preferably of Asian descent. The outlet also posted an update that Marvel is also looking for a General that works under this ruler as well.

Now, whilst it’s still a very vague description, the outlet themselves along with some fans have started speculating this could be Namor The Submariner, ruler of Atlantis in the Marvel comics Universe. I won’t comment on how accurate this speculation may well be, but I do recall Marvel stating that the rights to the Namor character were in a slightly more complicated scenario than the former Fox properties. Now it is entirely possible that Marvel has resolved these issues behind the scenes and Namor would be a stellar addition to Phase 4.

There is as I’m sure you know already, no Namor movie planned, but who knows whether the character could appear first in a variety of upcoming movies. Off the top of my head he could be a great fit for Doctor Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse, or even Black Panther 2, which is my personal favourite choice. Black Panther 2 hasn’t been dated, but we believe it will be coming likely sometime around 2023.

However, this could also be for a far smaller role in something like Eternals, or Thor: Love and Thunder just as easily, so let’s not get our hopes up for Namor just yet. Casting an Asian actor as the ruler of Atlantis would be a good move I feel though, one of those roles that’s very easily race swapped without a fuss in my opinion.

What do you think of the casting call, do you see Namor, or do you see fans adding fractions and coming up with calculus? Go deep and leave us your thoughts in the undersea kingdom in the usual spot below.
