RUMOR: Is Taika Waititi Being Eyed For Deadpool 3 Or Is It Just Wishful Thinking?

It’s been a long while since we’ve heard anything definitive about Deadpool 3. Yes, star Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have made vague statements about the movie being in the works, but any real details have eluded us. We have no idea what the story will be, if it will feature more X-Force members, or even who will be hopping into the director’s chair.

Now, there’s a rumor surrounding one particular high-profile filmmaker taking the lead. I’m talking about the Oscar-winning Taika Waititi. Waititi recently won an Oscar for his writing work on the heartfelt satire Jojo Rabbit. He’s also working with Disney on Thor: Love and Thunder. Now, We Got This Covered is reporting that multiple sources are stating that he is being eyed by Disney to helm the film.

They add the caveat that they have no idea whether or not Marvel has approached but that he has come up in discussions.

But it’s admittedly a bit difficult to take this report seriously as We Got This Covered isn’t exactly known for their reliability. They’re mostly known for shotgunning a whole slew of rumors — more than anyone can humanely follow on a consistent basis. So, is this Taika Waititi news real? I have my doubts that it’s anything we can rest our hat on.

More than anything, it sounds like the kind of news that fans would come up with because it’s the guy well-known for solid comedies. Plus, he has an in with Marvel Studios already with his Thor work, so it’s news that almost writes itself. Perhaps most annoyingly is the fact that this news is mostly non-news. It’s not even saying they’re far along in any process, but that he’s been considered. It’s almost the worst kind of news that can never be traced or held up to any scrutiny because at the end of the day, he was just being “considered.”

I’m not saying this news is “wrong” by any means, but it’s very much still too early to say, and this whole deal is premature at best, especially since Waititi wouldn’t even be available for another couple of years following Thor: Love and Thunder. I’d file it under “unlikely,” no matter how good a fit he’d be.

What do you think of Waititi taking on Deadpool 3? Would he be a good fit and do you see him actually being able to fit it in his schedule? Let us know your thoughts down below!
