Spawn Creator Todd McFarlane Announces Kickstarter For Re-Created Toy Line

Todd McFarlane has made his mark as one of the most memorable names in comic book history. Along with the likes of Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld, McFarlane co-created Image Comics in 1992. Through the new publisher, McFarlane went on to birth what is arguably his greatest creation: Spawn. Nearly 28 years later, McFarlane has not only generated buzz for Spawn’s upcoming return to the big screen, but also a new venture in his action figure line.

On Saturday, the legendary creator took to his Facebook with some special news for his followers. McFarlane stated that his McFarlane Toys plans to re-create the original Spawn action figure line, with a few added enhancements.

“I’m going to start with him (pointing to Spawn figure) and hopefully we’ll end up getting to all six of these, but we’re going to take that original Spawn and we’re going to do it and put it into a retro packaging, but we’re going to use a modern-day sculpt of it,” he said. He also took to his Twitter account to point out a prototype figure he has in his possession:

Spawn played a central part in the success of Image Comics, and lead the way in revolutionizing the comic book superhero genre. A dark, intimidating force using Hellfire to fight for good. It’s a complex character that only the mind of McFarlane could conjure up. After nearly three decades of comics, an animated series, action figures and a slightly flawed but enjoyable film, McFarlane’s most prized creation is on the verge of a pop culture resurgence—one the comic creator is happy to lead the way on.
