The Batman has been an infinitely-elusive film for seemingly forever. It was elusive when Ben Affleck was attached to direct. It was elusive when he was still attached to star. And while the movie is still reportedly making progress, hard details about the thing still have evaded us. Sure, we have some rumors pop up here and there, but in terms of official details, the studio is making sure NOT to rush this out as they’ve done with other films in the past.
But if there is one detail that seems to be agreed upon across the board, it’s that The Batman will feature a rogues gallery of villains for the Caped Crusader to take on. Now, we have one outlet giving us an actual number…kinda. In a recent mailbag post for the site Batman-On-Film, he stated that there are at least four villains in the movie.

This is a claim that was semi-corroborated by Forbes writer Mark Hughes, who said it wouldn’t be just one or two. He also said he knows about three of the villains for sure and that “there are others filling in Gotham’s population in cameos/supporting roles.”
These comments fall in line with what Matt Reeves even shared a few weeks back. So it’s not completely new news, but it’s just a little bit extra for us to sink our teeth into. Though with the script still likely going through final revisions, it’s best we understand that all this stuff is subject to change. That being said, the idea of a rogues gallery does seem like it’s very much embedded in the DNA of the story, so we’ll see.
Does four villains sound good to you, or is that simply too many? Personally, I think, in a world where we’ve seen countless superhero stories, having a rogues gallery of villains is a new approach that hasn’t been done well yet, and I’m on board for something new.
