Rumored Changes To DC Films As New Bosses Get Set To Present Their Plans

DC Films

In a separate piece, we talked about the big DC Films news that dropped regarding the future of Wonder Woman 3. But there were more nuggets in that information from the sources at The Hollywood Reporter that could be just talk or significant to the future of DC Films.

First, it’s noteworthy to know that the new DC Films bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran had spent some time in Aspen, Colorado. There they spend time deep planning and setting up their “DC Bible” or at least a working blueprint to showcase to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. They are expected to all meet sometime next week to see if they can get a stamp of approval.

With that said here are some rumblings that are now out on the internet regarding the future of DC Films.

SNYDERVERSE OUT

Gunn and Safran are looking to end what is left of the Snyderverse and its heroes cast by Zack Snyder. This is evident by their shutting down of Wonder Woman 3. As well as possibly shutting down Man of Steel 2 with a returning Henry Cavill, and shutting down Aquaman which stars Jason Momoa.

SUPERMAN IN OR OUT?

What is interesting is that these characters are supposed to cameo in the upcoming Flash film set to be released on June 16. But it is rumored that a Superman cameo may be removed if keeping it means teasing something that they have no plans on following through on. Keep in mind though that his cameo in Black Adam had a huge positive reaction. Followed by the actor a few days later announcing via social media that he was back as Superman.

Which is better and which should carry forward, the John Williams or Hanz Zimmer Superman Theme? Henry Cavill weighs in.

JASON MOMOA DONE WITH AQUAMAN BUT NOT DC

Another big topic of discussion is Momoa’s Aquaman. According to sources Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, which is set to be released on December 25, 2023, will be the last time Momoa will play Arthur Curry. But that does not mean the end of Momoa with DC. He would jump over to play the intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo. This is a role that even he has seemingly been teasing.

Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom will be the last film released made by the previous regime. The idea of a Lobo film would fit the mold of the kind of characters that Gunn and Safran might be focusing on. But we’ll hopefully soon see what is on the horizon after the meeting they have with Warner Bros. Discovery.

FOUR DC FILMS IN 2023

Along with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom and Flash, 2023 will see three other DC films being released. Starting with Shazam! Fury of the Gods on March 17, 2023, and the just-announced theater-exclusive Blue Beetle on August 18, 2023. Whether or not the success or failure of these films would impact any decisions is unknown.

MATT REEVES WORLD LEFT ALONE

One part of the plans for DC Films that seemingly remains unchanged is the Batman universe that has been set up by Matt Reeves. Currently, Reeves is writing the sequel to The Batman, which introduced us to Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. He is also overseeing two spinoff series including The Penguin. Also Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux.
