We have seen countless superheroes on the big screen but only one of them in recent memory contained a female lead. That film being Warner Bros. Pictures’ and DC Entertainment’s Wonder Woman. Well before this film, there had already been a request from fans to make a film featuring Marvel’s Black Widow played By Scarlett Johansson.

She first made her appearance in Iron Man 2, then starred in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America Civil War. Recently it seems that a solo film for the Avengers agent is starting to gain some traction. She will be making her next appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, which is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo brothers Anthony and Joe. They recently gave their thoughts on their feelings toward a Black Widow movie on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and they look to be on board with the idea.

“‘Yeah, we’re very happy for that. I mean it’s such a rich and interesting character,’ Joe Russo said. ‘There’s so much to explore with a character whose history was as a villain, and you know, Scarlett does such a good job of playing that character and people are so used to that character that you forget the character’s history, and so there’s a lot of compelling stories to tell about someone who has a dark past.'”

“It’s crazy exciting yeah,” Anthony Russo said.

Currently, Black Widow is being written by Jac Schaeffer who has previously worked on TIMER, Mr. Stache, and Nasty Woman. At the moment there has been no word on who Disney would bring in to direct the film. But the rumor is that they are looking for a 2020 release date.

Although I love Johansson as Black Widow, I am not sold on the idea of giving her a feature film. But before passing judgment it would be interesting to see what villain or organization she would go up against to make her story more compelling.

What do you think of Black Widow film? Should they be focusing on another female character instead? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Scarlett Johansson will once again reprise her role as Black Widow in Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War May 4, 2018 in theaters everywhere.
