Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds is producing a Mighty Mouse animated movie for Paramount through his Maximum Effort production company. Variety reports that the popular cartoon from yesteryear is being rebooted for the modern age.
‘The studio has tapped Maximum Effort Productions, Ryan Reynolds’ production company, to produce a feature adaptation of the popular cartoon as part of their first-look deal with the studio. In addition, Paramount Animation has also hired Matt Lieberman, who worked with Reynolds on the 2021 fantasy-adventure “Free Guy,” to pen the script.’
Mighty Mouse is very familiar to me, though perhaps not all our readers. I grew up in the 80’s, but it was the old cartoons from the 60’s I remember watching as opposed to some of the attempted reboot versions later. The reason for that is that when VCR’s first became affordable in Scotland the tapes available were less than plentiful. We had a guy that used to rent videos that came around in a car and did it from his trunk. There were no video rental stores yet, so ultimately what I’m saying is, I didn’t have much choice. So as a kid I would regularly rent out these old Mighty Mouse animated movies and episodes.

Yet there may be many similar aged to me who have never heard of this character. Certainly younger readers may not have come across the character before. Cut a long story short, he’s a copy of Superman in mouse form and in the early days even has the same color suit as Supes. Probably for copyright reasons this was later changed to the image you see in the header above. Mighty Mouse began in 1942, but I think it’s most popular era amongst kids was in the 1960’s. The theme tune ‘Here I come to save the dayyyy’ was known by children.
So far it is unknown if Reynolds will have any involvement in an acting capacity. He would be great for the voice. However, there’s nothing in the report to indicate this is the case.
